In 2007 the City of Langford instituted the most comprehensive protection plan for manufactured home owners in our province with their Manufactured Home Owner Redevelopment Policy. The policy requires that home owners in manufactured home parks be satisfied with a comprehensive plan for compensation before any approval is issued for a rezoning application.
Other assistance to home owners could come in the form of a reserve fund outlined in the policy which would provide a portion of monies collected from the taxes that home owners in Langford have paid into in the interim.
While no rezoning application has yet been applied for, the residents of Lombardy Park on Selwyn Road have for a few months been looking at a for sale sign outside of their park.
Even with the protection of the Langford policy these residents are at present in a state of limbo and suspense, wondering what the final outcome will be and how their homes will be impacted.
Many of the home owners here have resided in the park for many years and several residents are under treatment for cancer. It is sad to see this type of stress added to their already vulnerable situation.
This is a litmus test for Langford. There are 450 households in this jurisdiction who are interested parties in the final outcome.
Another thought that this type of homeowner throughout our province might want to carry with them when they vote in the next election, is how much consideration provincial legislation has given to manufactured home owners in this province.
