Re: Mayor’s opinion on rail out of touch with CRD (Letters, June 1)
This letter about Frank Leonard believing residents should vote on whether to spend money on a light rail system is illogical.
I don’t understand why anyone would object to Leonard’s view, in the context of the political system here now.
The idea of democracy is that individuals have a vote, rather than being controlled by some magically all-knowing self-annointed elite. People here have the ability and the right to speak for or against something like the LRT.
I am a strong critic of Frank Leonard, but in this case of voting on spending he is right.
I hope he wants to put more questions of law and spending to voters, such as various cost categories, legalizing secondary suites, and adequacy of policing.
