LETTER: A hypocritcal stance on specuation tax

Re: ‘Counsellor wants Saanich excluded from speculation tax‘ in the April 13 Saanich News.

How hypocritical of Coun. Leif Wergeland to criticize the 0.5 per cent provincial speculator tax while at the same time approving property tax increases year after year (this year 3.07 per cent) and still complaining about housing problems in Saanich.

He says it is irrelevant how many Saanich homes are sitting empty, mostly because he does not know, but at the same time he wants Saanich council to seek exclusion from the tax. Why bother with details I guess. Buying a second house has always been a wise ‘investment’ – nothing more, nothing less. Wish I could afford one.
