The Agassiz Monday Painters Art Show took place on Saturday, April 7, 2018. The 57th anniversary of this group is particularly phenomenal. Its success is mainly the result of the efforts of the members, working together to respect the image that has grown over these many years, while having the opportunity to enjoy their pass time.
The show is a fun and positive event to be at on a rainy day. The members were so accommodating to help everyone have a great time. Of course, the artwork from so many talented artists, is the big draw. It is very interesting to see just how many pieces are so different, both in topic, composition and media. Congratulations to all the participating artists!
Loretta Douglas was honoured as the featured artist of this year’s show. Loretta is a very talented artist. Her topics of interest are quite often difficult to create into a painting but she is always successful. It is magical how she can paint the dandelion seed with all the fluff, quite a feat. Loretta uses various media such as acrylic and watercolours. She is a valued member of the group. Well done, Loretta!!!!
A popular voting process took place, enjoyed by the visitors and the artists. The “People’s Choice” selected the 1, 2 or 3 favourites.
The following decisions were made:
• First Place – Judy Coutts – “Winter Sleigh Ride”
• Second Place – Naomi Olsen – “Stairway to Heaven”
• Third Place – Tie – Beth Smith – “Lazy River,” Diane Hopkins – “Death Cap”
Donors, thank you so very much for your support and generosity. This year’s art show Free Draw is always a curiosity to the guests. Congratulations to the winners.
This annual art show is meant to showcase the local artwork of this community and perhaps inspire others to paint, regardless of age. The wonderful world of art is meant to explore your creative abilities and have fun too.
The artists are pleased to receive accolades of praise and support which inspires them to continue exploring new ideas. Perhaps the paintings will be included in next year’s art show!
