LETTER: Better signage wanted on dangerous Gillespie Road

Weekly letters to the editor from within the Sooke community

I feel privileged to live in East Sooke. I do have many concerns, though.

I am heartbroken by each death on these dangerous windy roads.

I cried when I read about another accident and the children were 17 years old. Every week someone crashes on Gillespie Road on the extremely windy dip in the road where B.C. Hydro installed power boxes. It is slippery when wet, there is no signage saying to slow down due to a windy curve. There is nothing.

I have spoken to fire department who say call the mayor or road companies. I get nowhere.

These roads are not safe. There should be a sign on every corner warning people.

I have seen people many times go through the stop sign at Gillespie and Sooke roads right into oncoming traffic. The last time it was an elderly woman who just didn’t see the stop sign. How dangerous is this?

I want to see a response to this letter from the mayor on how we are going to fix these roads.
