Letter: Billboards ugly greeting for visitors

The beauty of our city is certainly not captured by the array of billboard signs greeting us from the Westside.

To the editor:

Kelowna is a beautiful city.

But the beauty of our city is certainly not captured by the array of billboard signs greeting us as one enters from the Westside of the lake.

The beauty we do have is obliterated by these billboards. How can anyone not see this ugly entrance and not be ashamed?

The ‘Welcome to Kelowna’ sign should read ‘Welcome to Billboard Kelowna.’

There are two equally guilty parties responsible for this—the purchasers of the advertising space, and the landowners who allow the signs to be placed.

I suggest that something you and I as citizens of this beautiful city can do to stop this billboard disgrace is to not do business with the companies who dare ruin the welcome to our city with this type of offensive advertising.
