At the June 19, 2018 222 Corfield St. public hearing over 100 residents rose in support for or against the zoning bylaw amendment. Each of those speakers identified themselves by name and address as a common courtesy to city officials and to the audience at large. For some of those speakers it was a courageous act to identify themselves and to publicly speak in front of such a large and at times noisy gathering.
The same cannot be said of the more than twelve officials sitting on the stage overseeing the evenings meeting. Not once during the meeting did the Mayor, acting as the Chairman, identify the officials on stage. That was a blatantly discourteous act to the many residents in attendance. The Mayor and those city officials who presided at the meeting should be ashamed of themselves.
Equally discourteous was holding this very controversial meeting at 6:00 PM on the same night and in the same area as the Tuesday evening Street Market thus creating a parking nightmare.
It seems common courtesy and logistical planning are not traits of this current Parksville administration.
