Re: “Supreme Court of Canada dismisses Ktunaxa Jumbo Resort appeal”
The claim made by the Ktunaxa First Nation that Jumbo is a sacred place for them, for grizzly spirit and all wild things, is couched in a language that the Supreme Court simply cannot understand.
The Supreme Court considers the attitude of Glacier Resorts Ltd. to be more practical: pertinent to us humans in our money-dependent culture. What they fail to understand is that spirituality lies at the heart of respect for all natural systems. These systems support our existence.
To destroy the habitat of wild things so that we can have more fun is, in the long run, both disrespectful and self-destructive.
The Ktunaxa people are right. Jumbo is sacred. Let’s find fun elsewhere. Let’s not desecrate Qat’muk with our sound of revelry.
Our scientists are among the prophets of our time. We need to listen to them.
