LETTER: Doctor’s efforts appreciated

Man of integrity will be missed by community of Mission

I note with regret the passing of Dr. James Marcellus. He came to Mission as a young doctor in 1947, when there was no Medicare and doctors were busy, often at patients’ homes at all hours, and for little compensation.

He was my grandmother’s doctor, my mother’s doctor and my doctor. He served this community with wonderful dedication and was heavily involved in getting us our present hospital in 1965.

He was an avid gardener and donated several rhododendron plants to Fraser River Heritage Park, at least one of which he created himself. He was a man of integrity and will be missed.
