To the editor:
Over the past few weeks I have noticed a number of articles and notices outlining the new licensing requirements and very large associated fines for dogs.
While I agree with the need for licensing, leashes, picking up after your pooch, restricted areas etc., I am wondering why the same rules are not in place for cats.
I am constantly chasing unlicensed cats from my yard as they hunt and kill the birds I go to great lengths to attract.
They kill my koi, dig up my bulbs and defecate in my yard.
I like cats but why is it permissible for them to wander and do as they please when it’s not OK for dogs?
I know all the cat lovers are going to be mad and I’ll get comments about “outdoor cats” and not wanting to restrict their natural instincts and that you never hear about a cat attacking anyone, unlike dogs, etc.
All this doesn’t matter. It really boils down to its my property, I don’t own a cat and I don’t want one in my yard.
