I and my fellow users of the dog park at Lamont and Blott are extremely upset to find that our dog park is being replaced with a playground.
We are a contingent of people and various types and sizes of dog who use this facility on a daily basis. We have always taken care of this space diligently so our dogs have a safe and clean place to socialize and have some off-leash fun.
I have spoken to one of the workmen at the site and was advised that he and his crew are creating playgrounds at an astounding rate. Why?
This particular area is not a suitable site for a playground because it’s not highly visible from the street and could be considered dangerous for unaccompanied children to play, especially after dark.
There is a wonderful playground not far from our beloved dog park that is, and has been, an ideal place for children to play. I am referring to the playground at the corner of Hurd and Seventh.
The dog park at Lamont and Blott is ideal for the purpose it was originally made for. It’s enclosed to keep the dogs safe and perfect for owners and dogs to enjoy safe entertainment and to socialize and get some exercise.
The next closest dog park is at Centennial Park but it is not fenced properly.
It has gaps that would allow small dogs to scoot through, putting both the dog and owner at risk from passing vehicles.
I am writing this on behalf of a significant group of people who all say please do not remove our beloved dog park.
