I agree with Bill Tyler (June 17 letter) that the tearing down of the partially finished observatory in Heritage Park will harm “the goodwill and heart of many volunteers who created this structure.”
I cannot understand why Mayor Hawes and his council could not get behind this idea and allow the observatory to be completed and opened.
Not only would this have provided Mission with a wonderful educational and/or recreational opportunity for all of us residents, but I am sure it would have brought huge numbers of visitors from Vancouver to Hope and beyond to visit our town.
We have probably a lot of dollars in revenue potential from the large numbers of tourists that will now not be visiting. I am very disappointed about this.
