Letter: Driver must do the right thing

One View Royal resident wants drivers to be more aware of what they leave behind

Drivers need to be aware of more than just other road users.

On the evening of Nov. 4 between 5 and 7 p.m. a vehicle entered a property at 300 Six Mile Rd. In the process of conducting a U-turn the driver ended up leaving a large oil spill. The vehicle then proceeded to the Six Mile Liquor store and later travelled up Six Mile Road toward Thetis Lake.

The mess they left behind is atrocious. Losing as much oil as they did on our driveway and across at the liquor store, the driver likely didn’t get far. But the slick they left behind will make the driveway slippery when wet for months to come, which is not good for elderly parents or people carrying babies to their vehicle. Also, the drains on the property empty into a salmon-bearing stream.

It really would be helpful if the driver came forward and offered some compensation toward the cost of clean-up, since the clean up was done by the homeowner.
