LETTER: Drivers thanked for stopping for hat

All of a sudden, there was a wicked gust of wind and my husband’s famous Crocodile Dundee hat was blown...

The other day my husband and I were walking to downtown Abbotsford along South Fraser Way.

It was a sunny but very cold and blustery afternoon. In fact, it was so windy that we turned our bodies sideways to walk and tried to hold on to our hats.

All of a sudden, there was a wicked gust of wind and my husband’s famous Crocodile Dundee hat was blown into the middle of the fray of very busy traffic. We thought that was the end of this brown legendary hat that had visited many parts of the world. But it was not to be. The traffic stopped on both sides of South Fraser Way. Imagine!

The people motioned for us to pick up the hat. At first,we were mesmerized and stood frozen. Then we ventured across the street and noticed people smiling and waving. We laughed and graciously returned the smiles and waves and celebrated the fact that people took notice and blessed us.

So we want to say thank you to all the wonderful drivers who stopped to give us a lot of Christmas cheer.
