LETTER: Education needed on sidewalk etiquette

Surely, we can learn this and not have to paint a line down the middle of sidewalks.

Re: B.C. will target left-lane huggers (News, March 6)

Premier Christy Clark wants to better educate people so they know which lane to travel on B.C. roads.

While we are at it, please let us educate people about sidewalks.

I live in Victoria. During daytime hours, businessmen and others span the sidewalk three or four abreast.

These people – walking, riding or anything else – must learn to keep right when others approach them from the opposite direction. And in single file.

One directional lane is half of the sidewalk, not the whole thing! It’s just like driving your car – do you take up the whole width of the road?

Surely, we can learn this and not have to paint a line down the middle of sidewalks and paint directional arrows, as city parks workers have done on the Dallas Road sidewalk.
