While there are a lot of congratulations going around about the sewage agreement, I still see Esquimalt bashing reflected in some letters and comments. Please keep in mind that without the efforts of those who engaged in the process set up by the Esquimalt mayor and council, our region would be building an oversized secondary treatment plant with out-dated technology coupled with a proximate sludge plant sandwiched between two schools and a residential neighbourhood on Viewfield Road. With the urging of Esquimalt and others, the CRD did what they said was impossible and decreased the size of the plant, found better technology to include tertiary treatment and cut the cost down to $760 million from the original tertiary treatment cost estimate of $1.2 billion.
Esquimalt’s efforts saved the region almost half a billion dollars, I don’t know how you can be mad at them for that. Thank you Esquimalt.
