In January 2016 at about 5 p.m., our house burned down to a state on “uninhabitable.”
For seven and half hours, we could only watch in horror as the firefighters struggled in slush and snow to try and quell the fire that was fast destroying our possessions and memories.
All the people who live on Son Ranch, except one, came and kept us company in the road at the bottom of our driveway, where we all watched the spectacle of fire trucks, firemen and water tankers.
I would like to thank everyone who helped us get through this event. Special thanks to Rosemary Phillips who took us to her house and let us stay there until we could make arrangements to move into a motel.
Thanks also to Ross and Jan Freer, Terry Pidwerbeski, Mike Paisley, Pierre and Sharron Perron, Grand Forks Optical, both husband and wife who own the Riverside Motel (who did everything they could to make us feel comfortable, and Chrystal our dog), both thrift stores (who helped us with clothing), Peter Smith, and to Dave Boughton and all the Masons of the Grand Forks and Greenwood lodges who supported us financially, emotionally and physically.
Finally, to all the people who donated money to help us get back on our feet—a huge thank you!
Your support was greatly appreciated.
