Letter: Gas line location info was provided

The damage in Rutland serves as a reminder to assess very carefully any FortisBC mapping that is reproduced by third parties.

To the editor:

The For the Record in the Sept. 28 edition of the Capital News mentioned third party damage that occurred to our natural gas system in Rutland on Sept. 20.

It was alleged in the article that FortisBC did not provide an accurate map to the contractor. This is incorrect.

FortisBC has reviewed its records and did provide a map to the requestor registered with the B.C. One Call ticket, which clearly demonstrated a gas line in the vicinity of the work being performed.

The damage which occurred in Rutland serves as a reminder to assess very carefully any FortisBC mapping that is reproduced by third parties working on your behalf.

We are always available as a resource regarding our locate information.

While this was an unfortunate incident, we thank the first responders who helped make the area safe, and apologize to any public that were inconvenienced as a result of this incident.

Ian Turnbull,

FortisBC damage prevention and emergency services manager
