Our family has lived in Cloverdale for 27 years, and as our kids get married and move out, they are also deciding to live here. Community is important to all of us. That’s why I believe that the Conservative Party’s candidate in the upcoming 2015 federal election needs to be someone local, not someone who simply uses a PO box.
The new Cloverdale-Langley City riding is an opportunity to add a strong local voice in Ottawa. Right now there are six candidates who all want the Conservative Party nomination. Most don’t live here and one only moved here recently, just in time to run for the nomination. Can someone who doesn’t call Cloverdale-Langley City home really represent us? I don’t think so.
To all those members of the Conservative Party who get to vote on their party’s nomination, I urge you to think seriously about who you are nominating, particularly when it comes to candidates with no real ties to the new riding or the communities it serves.
I’ll be supporting Mike Garisto, someone who has lived here for 25 years and who has been active in any number of local causes, organizations and charities. The idea that I’d be represented by someone who doesn’t really call Cloverdale-Langley City home, makes no sense to me. I hope Conservatives will feel the same way when they pick their candidate this fall for the 2015 election.
