Letter: God’s mayor would make almighty mess at city hall

Respect your own religion, keep it to yourself and at home, do not bring it to work with you. Amen.

Re: Mayoral candidate running as God’s servant for mayor of Kelowna. (God ‘Enters’ Kelowna Mayoral Race, July 15 Capital News.)

It must be a special person having direct contact with the Lord. I can see it now: “The Lord said to me, let there be light” and the new mayor orders more street lights.

Then there is the religious holidays to be observed; no more abortions at KGH; no shopping on Sundays; then there is the school prayer sessions to be installed; only Christians will be hired at the city yards; and so on—the list is long.

We cannot let the religious right take control of our politics no matter how “good” their intentions are. We can relate to the last great wars where the soldiers all prayed before they began their days of killing other Christians.

No religion in politics, please! Let us all pray to be free of that. Respect your own religion, keep it to yourself and at home, do not bring it to work with you. Amen.
