Letter: Just say ‘no’ and close your door

Let the Mormons or Catholics or whatever faith practice freedom of religion and freedom of speech…

To the editor:

Response to Saverio Sasso’s complaints: US Citizens Coming to Proselytize in Okanagan, Aug. 15 Capital News.

Mr. Sasso enjoys using the “We” pronoun.  I am not sure who else he is speaking for but certainly not for me.

When different faiths proselytize and walk up and down my street I am reminded that I live in a country where all are privileged to enjoy freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom to choose one’s career, marriage partner and where to live.

Perhaps four or five times a year members of the Jehovah’s Witness faith visit my doorstep.  Sometimes I have time to chat and more recently I was on a work-related call and asked them to come back another time and they were very gracious, even apologetic.

I have never attended one of their meetings but I admire their devotion to their beliefs and their desire to share their hope and efforts towards a better world.

Let the Mormons or Catholics or whatever faith practice freedom of religion and freedom of speech and you, Mr. Sasso, can practice saying “no thanks” and close your door.
