To the editor:
As president of the Lake Country Chamber of Commerce, I am showing my full support to the Kangaroo Creek Farm and its decision to start charging $5/person or $20/family rather than a suggested donation of $5.
Twice this summer I took friends from Alberta to the farm and my guests gladly paid the $5/person suggested donation, appreciated the chilled bottle of water and enjoyed walking amongst the animals in this quaint acreage along the creek.
The burgeoning popularity of this attraction has surprised most everyone, including the owners, Greg and Caroline!
They, along with local government, are working to address the parking issues, but most of the businesses located around the Kangaroo Creek Farm (and there are several) are benefiting from the increased daily traffic in the area this summer. Ask most Lake Country business owners if they would prefer an empty parking lot or a full one and you know their response: Full.
If the people running the Kangaroo Creek Farm are moving from a suggested donation of $5/person to an admission price of $5, that is up to them. I highly doubt this change will reduce the number of visitors frequenting the farm. This money can be used not only for the care of the unique animals at the Kangaroo Creek Farm (they have more than kangaroos there), it will also be used for the maintenance and expansion of the property, including more displays and parking spaces.
The Lake Country Chamber of Commerce is elated that the Kangaroo Creek Farm is doing so well and we wish Greg, Caroline and their staff much more success in the future.
Kirbey Lockhart, president,
Lake Country Chamber of Commerce
