So the “Can Do Mayor of West Shore” is ranting that the provincial government is not stepping up to the plate for the homeless. Well, the government has with more dollars in a year than the Liberals provided in 16, and ready plans for micro housing. Why aren’t they being built? Because no land is being provided for them by municipalities, the key authority that can do so. Only Saanich has. Not Langford. Imagine that.
Mayor Young says Langford has no land to spare. Nonsense. What about the vast space west of the Eng property? What about the now never mentioned destruction of new homes east of Millstream and north of the Trans Canada Highway which Mayor Young and council authorized for apparently better usage. Stretching the old axiom, “the difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.”
This mayor and council pride themselves on getting things done, compared to the “laggards” of the rest of the CRD. Maybe, in election year, a challenge confronts them that is more complex than snipping red tape and blocking off Goldstream Avenue for a rock concert.
Maybe they’ll have to be creative in finding land that isn’t middle class conventional , and even think outside the standard boxes.
Over to you, Stew.
