LETTER: Man-made potholes

I’ve driven in over a dozen countries in Europe, halfway across Canada and the United States and without a doubt the work by the planning and engineering departments in Abbotsford have to be the worst that I have encountered.

Other jurisdictions somehow manage to have their sewer lines run down the center of vehicle lanes so that the manholes can be straddled.

Furthermore it is possible to obtain  covers that fit flush with the rim of the manhole so that they do not have to countersunk a couple of inches but can be set level with the traveled surface.

By the way, manhole covers have drainage holes so they don’t even have to be countersunk.

Anyone who has driven in Abbotsford has encountered drivers (themselves included) swerving in order to try to avoid having their tires damaged by these man-made potholes.

Perhaps further research and/or education by these departments would do much to alleviate this situation.
