Letter: Milton Orris’ stories enjoyable

Keep up the good work, Milton. I, for one, certainly enjoy your stories.

I enjoy reading Milton Orris’ memories of his childhood in Grand Forks.  It is good to see the name Orris in our Gazette, again.

I’ve only lived in Grand Forks since 1970 but have always been interested in its history. I just wanted to let Milton know that his memories of Jim Flynn were much appreciated but I do know that Jim lived until the age of 94 and was still golfing into his 90s.

I remember reading in the Gazette that he had won a golf tournament at Christina Lake at the age of 88.

I did check my memories by using Jim and Alice Glanville’s publication Grand Forks—The First 100 Years.

Rattlesnake Bill’s last name was Puritch. He wasn’t just renowned for his rattlesnakes, his iron work and his multitudes of cats but in his younger days as a wrestler.

I believe I live on the property which housed Bill and his many cats. I remember feeling very sad when his cats were “rounded up” but it was necessary. I’ve found many a piece of iron and a few old bottles as I dig through my yard and they always remind me that I am living on a piece of Grand Forks history.

Keep up the good work, Milton. I, for one, certainly enjoy your stories.
