Letter: New city park ‘a proud moment’

If we all find ways of supporting city council in preserving this lakeshore for the public, we will all reap the rewards.

Re: Waterfront Park at the

I am writing this letter to congratulate Kelowna community associations and individuals for their recent lobbying efforts. Thanks to them, the City of Kelowna is now firmly committed to a new park on Okanagan Lake [at the foot of Cedar Avenue].

City council has taken the first positive steps in this process by giving the paddling club a new home. Could this evolve into a public outdoor aquatic centre? There are so many exciting possibilities and opportunities.

My parents, Jack and Goldie Large, loved the parks and participated in their growth and development. My father was one of the people who planted trees in City Park. I plan on funding a memorial bench in the new Lakeshore park in their honour.

If we all find ways of supporting city council in preserving this lakeshore for the public, we will all reap the rewards.

Again, congratulations and thank you to all who have made the establishment of a new public park on Okanagan Lake a reality. This is indeed a proud moment in our history.

Brian Large,

Kelowna
