Dear editor,
The 50-plus Canadian students attending the non-profit, scholarship-driven Pearson College UWC in Metchosin this year were probably as surprised as I was to read the erroneous statement that “Pearson is only open to international students” in Brookes Westshore IB School in Colwood opens its doors and cuts the ribbon (online article, Sept. 28).
In fact, Pearson – a West Shore pre-university educational institution for 45 years – and all 17 United World Colleges schools around the world, welcome Canadian and international students to their campuses.
Canadian students at Pearson come from British Columbia, from every province and territory and from a variety of Indigenous communities across the country. They, like all UWC students, are chosen based on merit and promise, not on ability to pay. We welcome visitors to our beautiful campus on Pedder Bay – please stop by and find out what we’re all about.
Sincerely,
Brian Geary
Pearson College UWC director of Communications
