Re: “New pipeline may cost cities millions” (The News, June 19).
Interesting article — reminded me a tad about the concept of “dog-bites-man.”
Of course pipeline consruction will create costs for several levels of government (read “taxpayer” here).
And end-users of oil will be paying a premium for decades to come. What? You actually expected that oil producers would spend billions upon billions without recouping their investment? C’mon.
That’s not how it works. Oil interests proudly proclaim that once foreign markets are open to them, they will be able to charge world prices. And then we here in Canada will have the privilege of paying whatever world pricing is in effect.
New pipeline construction is most definitely win-win for the proponents, yet not so much for those of us still needing to gas up on a regular basis.
