Letter: Pipeline expansion

So, last Friday Catherine McKenna announced a plan to reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions by 30 million tonnes by 2030. The clean fuel standard would apply to transportation and heating fuels.

“We stand at the dawn of the clean growth century. It begins with the choices we make today,” she said. Quoting John Kerry, she told a Toronto business luncheon that not only is clean energy the solution for climate change, but it’s “also the greatest market opportunity the world has ever known.”

And if this week she announces approval of Kinder Morgan or Line 3, the latter which will result in up to 26 million tonnes of annual carbon pollution?

That would be clear evidence of poor executive functioning, evidence of an inability to understand information and use it to make decisions.  It would be delusional, proceeding as though taking away with one hand what the other gives is good governance.

It would be time for all Canadians, including newspaper editors, to call for this minister’s resignation.
