Open letter to Kelowna City Hall:
Do we need hand rails in public buildings like Prospera Place? Of course, we do. And we need them now.
Ten years ago I attended writing sessions at our Kelowna museum. Staff was kind enough to let me and others use the elevator inside the building.
Getting into the building was the challenge. A very steep gravel ramp at the rear and an exceedingly long cement ramp to Queensway Avenue entails a lot of walking for those of us with chronic pain. Yes, there are some shorter routes with three or four steps. But – no railings.
Ten years ago I brought this to the attention of the museum and City Hall. Recently I went to this building again to search some archives. Guess what. No railings yet.
I’m sure some junior students at the vocational college could solve this dilemma in a single day (they did some wonderful work for a charity many years ago.)
How come our civic management cannot protect the safety of our citizens? It would take very little of your precious time and very little of taxpayers money to solve these and similar problems.
Would a photo op encourage action now?
