Letter: Respect others–keep quiet at the movies

The problem with going to the movies is having to put up with the constant yappers.

I enjoy watching movies as great entertainment and many titles really grab my attention to see on the big screen.

The problem with going to the movies is having to try hard and put up with the constant yappers who must provide their own insensitive running commentary throughout the entire film. Asking such inconsiderate folks to just sit and watch like the rest of us just falls on deaf ears a lot of the time. And most of the time it is seniors and they just ignore my attempts at asking nicely to stop talking so loudly—like recently trying to watch the movie Unbroken at a Westbank theatre.

Unbroken would have been that much better if I did not have to listen to these two older senior ladies gossip and banter throughout. They just ignored my attempts at asking them nicely to stop yapping. Attending movies at the theatre can be expensive so who wants to have to listen to loud comments and reactions over and over?

I think if you cannot just sit and watch a movie with respect to others and just laugh at the funny scenes and whisper when need be, do not attend. Stay home and annoy your friends and family and not strangers who are there to just simply try and enjoy a film and not miss dialogue and the overall feel of the film.

If you know someone like this personally, please tell them that it really takes away from the flow of the movie. This way they may just be a bit more considerate to others the next time they go, even the ones who are just stuck and set in their inconsiderate ways.

Lets make going to the movies a fun experience for everyone…be polite to others and they will be polite to you and not show their frustration as I did today.
