Regarding last week’s story (Penticton Western News, March 9, Program to hit ‘rats of the sky’ where they roost), starlings’ preferred diet is insects.
Farmers and orchardists have selected pesticides. To reduce population, could starling eggs be considered as a cottage industry and harvested? The egg shells are a beautiful blue.
Also, could they possibly accompany local wines as appetizers? An attraction for tourism?
Sad to kill nature, but possibly more honourable than gas?
