For the past two years, Habitat for Humanity Canada ReStores were the recipients of the Corporate and Social Responsibility Award from the Retail Council of Canada!
This award recognizes a retailer-initiated program that demonstrates a creative response, active collaboration and successful fulfillment of community needs.
Habitat for Humanity ReStores are non-profit home improvement stores and donation centres. ReStores sell new and gently used furniture, home accessories, building materials and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price.
ReStores are volunteer run, with staff available to facilitate and assist in the day to day operations.
The objectives of a ReStore are three-fold; to raise funds for the local Habitat affiliate, to help the environment by redirecting items from landfills and to provide exceptional value to shoppers.
Habitat for Humanity Boundary had planned for the construction of a new building for a ReStore in downtown Grand Forks. With the plans in place, Habitat opened a temporary ReStore in the old forestry building at 136 Sagamore Ave. Unfortunately, that project had to be cancelled due to circumstance beyond Habitat’s control.
That brings us to the current situation. We invite the citizens of Grand Forks and the Boundary region to help preserve this social enterprise that is so treasured by other cities. The best way to do so is to support the ReStore by donating, volunteering and shopping.
