LETTER: Selkirk students plan food drive

From readers Charly Defouw and Kira Stoochnoff

We are two local Selkirk College students who are hosting a community food bank drive on Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24.

In times of crisis, it’s easy to feel distant and alone. We wanted to create an opportunity to negate these feelings of isolation, because staying socially distanced doesn’t mean that we can’t be a part of the community.

We wanted to give back to the towns that have given us so much, and find a way to connect people in a time of need. We are accepting donations and food, all proceeds of which will be going to the Community Harvest Foodbank in Castlegar and the Nelson Salvation Army.

There will be a community drop-off day in Nelson on May 23 and in Castlegar on the 24th. The locations of the drop-offs will be confirmed later. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. For more information, visit our Facebook page “Nelson & Castlegar Community Food Bank Drive.”

You can contact us on Facebook or via email.
