LETTER: Some races not worth winning

Re: Saanich lags behind region in housing starts, Saanich News Jan. 5. Again this year I ask: is this a race to the bottom to see which municipalities can have the most oversized high-rises, infill, traffic congestion, street parking problems, etc.?

That Victoria and Langford “outpaced” Saanich can be seen in how massive developments have changed the lives of residents and areas. I am certain that some developers cheer on this fictional “race” for profits over neighbourhoods.

That TROC (the rest of Canada) would like to resettle here should not be the motivating factor as it seems to be in this race to build. Parkland preservation and development, the ALR and yes even the EDPA concept are, in my opinion, keeping our way of life in balance.
