Letter: Study regional district governance change on your own dime

I'm sure most RDCO rural taxpayers don't know a portion of their tax dollars has been set aside to study changing their governance.

Open letter to Regional District of the Central Okanagan staff & board:

As a resident in the RDCO East Electoral area for the past 43 years I would like to take this opportunity to thank each one of the RDCO staff and board directors for their dedication, experience and hard work.

As a concerned citizen I listen to the audio of the board meetings and occasionally attend the meetings in person.

As I have been following the request by director Carson for a governance study to be done for the area of the Westside Fire District, I would like to make it known that I do not support any portion of my Rural Land Tax paid to the RDCO or any portion of my B.C. provincial taxes to be used for this study. If in fact these residents feel that this study is necessary for them to move forward then I would encourage them to dip into their own wallets and fund the study themselves.

A note on the $30,000 that the elected board directors requested be set aside in the budget for ‘future’ governance studies, I’m sure the majority of the RDCO rural taxpayers are not aware that a portion of their tax dollars has been set aside for this purpose nor would they agree that the RDCO Rural Land Tax should fund this type of study.

I would ask that these monies be put back into our communities in the form of improvements and services therefore allowing us to maximize our tax dollars to the benefit of all.
