The recent Orlando shooting leaving 50 dead has affected many. In such devastating circumstances however, our city has proved its solidarity, acceptance and supportive nature.
I am an advocate for unity and justice, no matter the context. We, as citizens of such a wonderful city like Surrey, should be proud. The city hall hoists a rainbow-coloured flag in honour of the mass shooting victims. It is a strong message that such acts are condemned.

Surrey’s LGBTQ community had fought hard to hoist the pride flag outside the city hall but remained unsuccessful due to the federal and provincial flag practices and protocols set out.
Now, the city is hosting its first Pride parade.
Many shootings have wreaked havoc in Surrey this year. Let’s divert our attention from the negatives because there are positives that outweigh them. The bad things that happen today could be paving the way for the good things tomorrow.
