To the editor:
Why have speed limits? I pick up children from Shannon Lake Elementary School every week day. At least on two of those days each week, I have a driver behind me that tailgates.
I drive the posted speed limit at the school and through the playground limit on Shannon Ridge Drive—30 km/h.
The sidewalk runs out before the playground and children have to walk on the street.
I have had children walk out in front of my car. If I hadn’t been driving the speed limit, a child could have been hurt. Yet I have tailgaters honk, give me the finger and pass me. Often, I find a young woman is driving.
Do they have to hurt a child before they slow down?
On another morning at 8:15 a.m. on Butt Road, I had a young woman driving a white Expedition tailgate me as I was driving the posted limit and actually pass on a double line. I followed her as she weaved in and out of traffic on Highway 97. She drove into the Tim Hortons drive-thru. Why the need for speed?
