Letter: Tennis courts in City Park are a crumbling mess

The tennis courts are another matter. They are a disgrace.

Open letter to Mayor Gray and Kelowna City Council:

City Park is one of the jewels of our city—or it certainly can and should be.

As so many of your constituents have voiced their opposition to locating a tourist centre in the park, I like to think council has now nixed this dumb proposal.

Also please leave the lawn bowling club in its present location.

The tennis courts are another matter. They are a disgrace. The surface is cracked allowing grass and weeds to sprout up through the cracks. The courts are badly in need of resurfacing. The nets are old and sagging and the fence is badly in need of replacement.

One councillor commented that he didn’t think the courts were used by many players. Well of course not. Nobody wants to play on them. I tried to get council interested in a restoration programme several years ago but to no avail.

Bravo to council for approving the funding for this much needed improvement to our wonderful city park.

Walley Lightbody,

Kelowna
