LETTER: The world would be better if more women were housewives

Happy Hope homemaker Barbara MacKinnon weighs in on Kamala Harris

This letter is in response to the column “Reductive images of women need to be scrapped,” appearing in the Feb. 5 edition.

Editor:

I don’t understand why modern women are so against the traditional family.

After reading this reductive article, the first image that came to mind was my dear mom and her ironing board. And it wasn’t a reductive, sexist stereotype image. It was a very loving image of my mom doing one of the most important jobs a woman can do – taking care of a family, a homemaker, a housewife. What is wrong with that?

Mom and Dad did not rely on the government to take care of us. My day care was my mom. When I went to school, she made breakfast, packed my lunch and was waiting for me when I got off the bus.

The world would be a much better place if it there were more women doing their job at home. You could have found better women as examples for little girls to look up to.

Kamala Harris believes in killing babies in the womb. President Ronald Regan once said “Everyone who is for abortion has already been born.” Martin Luther King once said “We shouldn’t be judged by the colour of our skin by the contents of our character.”

I believe we shouldn’t put people in power because of their colour or sex, but because they are qualified.

My favourite Regan quote is “Our liberal friends think they know so much about what isn’t so.”

Thanks for listening

Barbara MacKinnon
