LETTER: Theft impacts everyone

When I read the story I felt disgusted – after all the flowers and hanging baskets stolen during summer… and now this.

I read the story in the Mission City Record printed last week (Thieves hit downtown – again, Feb. 26) that included an account of being broken into, and wanted to send some best wishes.

When I read the story I felt disgusted – after all the flowers and hanging baskets stolen during summer… and now this.

I was raised and went to high school in Mission; after about eight years of living across Canada I’ve returned to call Mission home again for the past two and a half years.

During this time each one of my cars has been stolen, once when I was living on 7th Ave. and once living on 14th Ave.

Items have also been stolen from my fenced private yard on two different occasions (propane tank hooked up to an RV, a tent left out to dry after a camping trip, lawn furniture etc).

I really feel your pain and I just wanted to say I hope you hang in there. It’s a violating experience and I completely understand how you might need some time and support to recover.

In all four of my thefts the police attended the scene but no one was ever apprehended regardless of the officers always feeling like “they had suspects in mind that matched other cases.”

In fact after my cars were recovered, or the report was made, I never heard from anyone ever again.

When I read that part in your story my heart sank because it always seems the RCMP has “an idea” but yet these criminals are let loose and commit crimes over and over and over again to good, honest, hard-working people.

Your small business brings vibrancy and life to Mission, not to mention your taxes fuel our municipal needs, and this is how you’re repaid?

The theft in this city is just overwhelming. It seems every neighbour and friend has a story of their own.

So when I say you’re not alone, you really aren’t in the literal sense.

But you’re not alone in thoughts either, and myself and my family wish you a full recovery, financially and through peace of mind.
