RE: Cullen, Rice slam spill response from feds
We have many locals from Prince Rupert and neighbouring First Nation communities participating in the clean-up of Nathan E. Stewart oil spill near Bella Bella.
These individuals should be recognized for their extraordinary efforts in a challenging and unforgiving environment.
My grave concerns about the spill response regime in British Columbia is a criticism of higher levels of government in their lack of leadership to adequately equip and protect coastal communities.
Individual First Responders such as those people working for WCMRC (Burrard Clean), the Canadian Coast Guard, Provincial shoreline teams, the Heiltsuk First Nation and countless others should be commended for their hard work in trying circumstances with limited resources.
