To the editor:
I work as a cashier at Superstore in West Kelowna and I would like to take this opportunity to thank an extraordinary person.
I had an old gentleman come through my checkout lane last Thursday, September 25, whose purchase came close to $28. When I told the customer how much his order came to he became quite concerned because he did not expect the order to be that high; he seemed to not have enough money to pay for the whole purchase.
He was in the middle of picking through his selection of items, trying to choose those he wanted me to void from his order, when another customer who was standing next in line handed me a $50 bill. This person told me that he wanted to pay for his groceries. I was startled so I asked him if he wanted to pay the full amount. This gentleman said that he wanted to pay for it all as he did not like seeing people not being able to afford food.
When I told the old gentleman that the person beside him paid for his purchase in full, you could tell that he was in a state of shock. He looked at the generous person and thanked him, and you could tell by looking in his eyes that no words could describe how he truly felt.
I too was in shock. This extraordinary act of generosity has validated to the old gentleman and myself that there are still amazing people out there.
Thank you. I am sorry for not saying these words to you in person. You represent the true beauty that was meant to shine in humanity.
