To the editor:
I’m writing this message with the hope that someone will help me out.
On the night of Dec. 29, or the early morning of Dec. 30, my car was hit by another vehicle while it was parked on the street in front of my home.
As my son and I left our home to go to work/childcare, we noticed that our car was pushed up onto the sidewalk. When we went to the rear of the car, we noticed the damage.
We were shocked. My car had been hit so hard in the back that the rear view mirror on my windshield was hanging.
I called a friend for a ride and when I got to work I made all the other appropriate calls (ICBC, RCMP). At that moment, I was upset but not worried. I figured my car would get fixed and all would work out.
Unfortunately, that’s not quite the case. My car is a write-off. I’m heartbroken.
ICBC will decide what my car is worth but it won’t reflect its true value. That car was priceless.
It was an older car but it allowed me the ability to work three jobs to provide for my son and myself. It allowed me to take my son to school, the pool, and to friends houses. Our car was part of our independence and our accessibility.
I don’t think the person who hit my car really understood the magnitude of his or her decision to drive carelessly that night and leave without taking responsibility.
I have pictures of my car as well as a picture of the Chevrolet symbol that was left behind when my car was hit.
I’m just hoping that someone knows something. Someone has a Chevrolet with damage. I don’t know what my son and I will do for a vehicle. I’m just trying to remain positive and hopeful.
