LETTER: Wasting water?

I am very concerned how certain businesses in Abbotsford think saving our water does not apply to them.

I am very concerned how certain businesses in Abbotsford think saving our water does not apply to them.

We all see our lawns burnt, hedges and shrubs hanging on by the absolute minimal of water, and even then the foliage is yellowing.

Death is around the corner.

The loss of these plants costs homeowners. Yet on Wednesday, July 22,  in the morning, I ventured to a local chain store to make a purchase. And I was shocked to see a man on a mobile scaffold pressure spraying the walls.

They are not even dirty, just maybe dusty. Where he washed and where it dried looked the same.

This is a an unnecessary waste of hundreds of litres of precious water. It did not have to be done during our drought. Considering how much money that store makes from Abbotsford citizens, I think this is an uncaring attitude to our plight.

A slap in the face to Abbotsford and our rules.

While city hall has spies checking up on homeowners lawns, and issuing tickets (should be fines), they allow this blatant abuse of our scarce water.

A hefty fine should be assessed against corporate wasters. Show the people of suffering Abbotsford some respect and compassion.

(Editor’s Note: Abbotsford’s stage 3 water restrictions allows the power washing of commercial buildings.)
