Letter: Waterfront wrong place for tourist offices

I cannot support providing public space for a large building for the use of Tourism Kelowna.

Open letter to Kelowna mayor and council:

The reality is relocating the tourism centre from the highway to the Queensway jetty may at best temporarily slow the death of a service which has become redundant by technological change. I understand a significant component of Tourism Kelowna is promoting our city and valley through various media. Administrative and publicity functions do not require a prime waterfront location.

I can support the concept of a small kiosk employing summer students to engage tourists to promote restaurants, events etc. in the city. I cannot support providing public space for a large building for the use of Tourism Kelowna.

I fail to understand why the city continues to push this project forward despite the opposition of residents. I can fully understand the enthusiasm of Tourism Kelowna—choice location for an office.
