Letter: WestJet showed compassion

WestJet sent relief planes to fly out hospital patients and oil industry workers writes Eric Turner.

It is edifying to know that in times of crisis and unquestionable need, a huge number of Canadians rise to the challenges. Recent cases in point, of course, are the Fort McMurray fire and the Syrian refugee crisis, to both of which crises Canadians responded admirably.

The general public should be made aware that not everyone is of such a benevolent spirit; however, one particular airline—WestJet—did respond with compassion in the wake of the Fort McMurray fire.

WestJet sent relief planes to fly out hospital patients and oil industry workers, while sending in planes with first responders and emergency supplies. All without fanfare.

An event of this nature allows a glimpse of corporate attitudes and, indeed, the very nature of the character of WestJet in particular.
