As MLA for Cariboo-Chilcotin, I have the pleasure and the privilege of representing the great people of Williams Lake, a community known for their warm hospitality and Cariboo pride.
This well-deserved reputation was on full display this past weekend during the 90th Annual Williams Lake Stampede.
This year’s milestone Stampede had four full days of rodeo action and family fun that celebrated Williams Lake’s strong ranching roots. Bull and bareback riding, saddle bronc, steer wrestling, and the Mountain Race were just a few of the fantastic festivities we saw during Stampede.
I also want to congratulate Ms. Cheyenne Shoults for being crowned 2016 Stampede Queen, as well as recognize the amazing local talent and artists that were on full display this weekend.
The Stampede has always had a special place in my heart and I am so proud to see it still running strong after nine decades. Few annual events across British Columbia can lay claim to such a successful history, and I want to thank everyone involved.
My sincerest thanks goes to the Stampede’s organizers and volunteers, who made this fantastic event possible through their hard work and dedication.
It’s no wonder the Stampede received the 2016 Business Excellence Award in Hospitality/Tourism from the Williams Lake and District Chamber of Commerce.
Council and staff of the City of Williams Lake also deserve congratulations on a job well done for keeping our city pristine and beautiful for the enjoyment of all.
Locals, as well as visitors from across British Columbia and around the world, know what a fantastic place Williams Lake is to work, live and play.
We were pleased to welcome a visiting delegation of businesspeople from China two weeks ago, who were treated to a mini-rodeo and a quick lesson in line-dancing during their visit.
We are also honoured to be hosting the 40th Annual BC Elder’s Gathering on July 11-14 and wish them a productive and fruitful meeting during their time here.
It’s events like these that are a reminder of what a special community Williams Lake is — one with open doors and big hearts. Well done Williams Lake!
