Re: “Intensity of rain factor in flood” (Mission Record, March 27 edition) In this article, Mayor Randy Hawes claims that the flooding and damage to the homes of the residents on McRae Avenue was not due to neglect.
Hawes stated that it was caused by a blockage due to a “discarded Christmas tree and old chair.
He then stated that “all culverts were inspected in February.”
As someone who lives on a nearby street, I beg to differ. My husband took our dog for a walk down to the culvert last September (2014) and noted the tree and chair. He was disgusted that such a beautiful place was being used as a garbage dump.
We have tried ourselves to clean up this area but nothing seems to deter the garbage dumpers, druggies or taggers. Be honest Randy Hawes, your people should have prevented the flooding!
