Re: Apology for 3½-hour ambulance wait; Water rescue, Sept. 30.
Your Friday front-page stories caught my eye: a 3½-hour wait for an ambulance, and a picture of the Coast Guard hovercraft.
My wife and I just happened to be taking our boat to Vancouver’s False Creek for lunch on Wednesday and we were passed by the same hovercraft in English Bay.
It had been a rough trip through the Gulf of Georgia, as it was blowing 20 knots gusting to 25 knots with seas around four feet and scattered. It was bumpy with waves occasionally breaking as high as our upper deck.
The hovercraft passed us fairly close, so I took a video as it went by. That video was taken at 1:54 p.m. Your story states it arrived just after 3 p.m.
Vancouver Harbour to Crescent Beach in just over an hour seems pretty good service for a day like that, if you were to ask me.
Maybe the people who operate the ambulance service could learn a thing or two from our Coast Guard.
